About

As you know, Shellabration is an annual culinary celebration that showcases local shellfish, wine and beverages, highlights the amazing restaurants and merchants of Greenport, and benefits Cornell Cooperative Extension Marine Program. It is traditionally held the first weekend of December in Greenport Village and is attended by 1,500 "Shellabrants". In 2020, we pivoted and offered a virtual event as not just a fundraiser for our SPAT Program and Back to the Bays Initiative, but as a platform to help promote the oyster growing community, educate the public about the importance of our shellfish and habitat restoration work, and of course to support the local Greenport Village business community in any way we could. We are very pleased to continue our traditional in-person restaurant walk. We hope that the event is successful and enjoyable for everyone!

Sustainable Seafood Inspiration

Shellabration is a fundraiser, but one of the most important goals of this community event is to encourage local people to enjoy local seafood, local beverages, and shop in local stores. This benefits the Greenport community, as well as our precious marine environment.

Chefs, let your creativity shine by utilizing locally sourced clams, oysters, scallops, and other fish in your Shellabration dishes!

For inspiration, CCE Marine’s Fisheries Team has a special program, dedicated to educating the public and professionals about Fresh, Indigenous, Sustainable, Healthy seafood (F.I.S.H.). And LIOGA (Long Island Oyster Growers Association) can help you source local shellfish. Visit their websites for species information, recipes, and more!

Best of Shellabration 2024

We are continuing our new tradition of allowing Shellabrants to vote for their favorite dishes, restaurants, shops, and more, in our “Best of Shellabration” poll!

This year, to encourage innovative culinary use of local, sustainable seafood, we will be adding categories, for even more chances to win.

Categories may include, but are not limited to: Best use of Local Oysters, Clams, and/or Scallops, Best use of Local Fish, Tastiest Local Beverage Pairing, and of course Best Shop Vibes and Best Overall Restaurant Experience!
